Italian Design

The Solar X has been designed by Ignazio Bernardi, with the technical consultancy from the greatest Italian helmet developer.

The result is a helmet with a very modern look.The 2 pilots pilots Piccard and Borschberg of the Solar Impulse 2 have chosen this helmet because it is light, solid, reliable and it has the certification EN 966.
We are very proud to have contributed to this incredible mission.
So we called the helmet “SOLAR X” in honor of this unique adventure.

Shell made of strong polycarbonate

The 3 mm thickness polycarbonate shell has the advantage to be very light but still very strong.

Polystyrene reinforced

The polystyrene is reinforced with one more layer of polycarbonate to achieve the hard penetration test of the E.N. 966 certification.
Between the shell and the polystyrene there are 2 channels with their wholes for the air flow

Airflow inside the helmet

You can open or close the entrance of the air into the helmet just with one hand and while you are flying

Visor

The visor is an option.
It is made of polycarbonate with anti-scratch and anti-fog treatment.2 types are available:

Short, tranparent and tinted brown
Long, tranparent, tinted brown and mirror

Sizes

There are 3 available sizes with wheel regulator for a perfect fit of the head circumference from 53 cm to 61 cm.The size of a helmet is always described by the inner circumference of the internal padding.The size number therefore corresponds to the head circumference in centimetres.

Interchangeable internal padding

3 internal paddings are adapted to the 3 sizes determinated by the wheel regulator situated in the back of the helmet. They can be replaced by larger or smaller padding pieces included the wheel regulator, thus varying the helmet size.
You just choose your own size of ICARO tailored inner helmet lining for a safe, perfectly comfortable head fit….
It can be changed in moments in case a different size is needed.
If the helmet is not a perfect fit, we send a new padding free of charge, independently from where you bought the helmet.
The important advantage: you can easily remove the padding and replace it with a new one or just wash it.

Covering shell edge

For the first time we don’t use the normal rubber to cover the edge of the shell
We found the method to stich a strip of fabric around all the helmet
The result is just unique and beautiful

Steel wire sidepieces

The stainless steel wire sidepieces are plastic-coated
We are the only usig this unique solution.

Micrometric chin strap

The chin strap is millimetrical adjustable.

Ear defenders or electronic headsets

The Solar X helmet is certified only with attached ear defenders or electronic headsets.
We use the best ear defenders on the market and we mount them perfectly onto the helmet.The advantages of wearing a headset fixed to the helmet

the ear cups can be flipped upwards quickly and easily
on the ground you can thus hear normally
in the air you can ventilate your ears whenever you like

We can apply the electronic apparatus for any type of radio equipment, including the professional headsets used by the Swiss aerial rescue service with our Rega helmet. For further information, go to our headsets page.

If customers already have their own headset and they wish to use them with our helmet, we suggest to send us the headset so that we can fit it perfectly to the helmet.
If you have any doubt about the application of the headset, please send us a mail to staff@icaro2000.comFor safety reasons, we do not sell the helmet to pilots who wish to use a conventional arching headset worn under the helmet.

Certification E.N. 966

The Solar X has been tested by the italian laboratory Newton a company authorized by the Italian Ministry of Transport.
The Solar X is certified only with attached ear defenders or electronic headsets.
All our helmets are designed especially for free flight and micro light pilots, in accordance with the European standards (EN 966).
Our helmets were designed and built specifically to be as light as possible. However they optimize safety for hang glider, paraglider and micro light pilots, as shown by the information above.
