Design
The Rollbar Plus helmet was designed by Ignazio Bernardi, with technical consultancy from the most important helmet developer in Italy.
The creation of a new helmet is a lengthy process. It begins with a prototype made in wood and plaster, sculpted like a fine artwork with all the classic Italian artisanal talent.
Once this has been perfected, it is scanned to create a 3D file, which can be used for computer simulations, colour tests and detailed design. After further refinements, this file is then used to programme the CNC machines that cut the dies for the outer shell and the polystyrene lining.
This is just the start: the process continues with manufacturing, assembly, quality control, testing and packaging. The result is alluringly attractive and technically impeccable. In short, 100% Italian style.
Shell made of full carbon layers or fiber glass
Calotta
The Rollbar Plus helmet is built using the same technology as in military applications including high-modulus full carbon or glass fibres in order to guarantee the highest possible safety standards.
Double Visor
Rinforzo
Short visor
When closed, the brown-tinted visor is integrated and protected inside the helmet, between the fiberglass shell and the polystyrene.
You can open or close the visor with the black button on the top of the helmet, just with one hand and while you are flying.
Easy to change just with one screw.
Long visor
The long transparent visor gives you great visibility both open and closed.
It can be easely locked onto the Rollbar, thus avoiding that it opens at high velocities.
Moreover the strong visor helps to protect the face like an integral helmet.
Rollbar and Turboskip
Ventilazione
The Rollbar, has the function to protect the chin with a titanium-anodized aluminium tube.
Icaro 2000 is a company committed to ongoing product research and development. For this reason, following requests by many pilots and dealers for a full-face Microlight helmet with built-in headsets, we opted for a different solution: the first helmet with a rollbar, offering excellent vision and a high level of safety.
This helmet, with its exciting, high-tech design, is hallmarked by its most distinctive feature, the rollbar, which guarantees protection for the lower part of the face without reducing field of vision.
The helmet is built using highly reliable materials and modern components. In particular, the rollbar, in high-performance aluminium, is highlighted by its titanium-colour anodized finish, which enhances the unit’s visual appearance.
In flight, the sensation provided by Rollbar Plus is that of a full-face helmet, but with improved vision and with an excellent protection against the cold.
The turbo skip avoids that the air flow can enter from the under side of the helmet and create annoying turbolences between the eyes and the visor.
It is fixed on the rollbar and can easyly be replaced.
This helmet has a fixed luxury internal padding that can be replaced by larger or smaller one, thus varying the helmet size.
If the helmet is not a perfect fit, we send a new padding free of charge, independently from where you bought the helmet.
The important advantage: you can easily remove the padding and replace it with a new one or just wash it.
The size of a helmet is always described by the inner circumference of the internal padding.
The size number therefore corresponds to the head circumference in centimetres.
There are 5 internal padding for the sizes:
56 (Small)
58 (Medium)
60 (Large)
62 (X Large)
63 (XX Large)
Steel wire sidepieces with luxury chin strap
Orecchiette
The stainless steel wire sidepieces are plastic-coated.
You can easily adjust them with a allen key (supplied with the helmet)
The system is a registered model.
We are the only usig this unique solution.
The strap is millimeter adjustable
Ear defenders or electronic headsets
Test
We use only the finest Peltor-brand headsets, and we mount them perfectly onto the helmet.
We can apply the electronic apparatus for any type of radio equipment, including the professional headsets used by the Solar Impulse 2 and the Swiss aerial rescue service with our Rega helmet.
For further information, go to our electronic headsets page.
If customers or dealers already have their own headset and they wish to use them with a new helmet, we suggest to send us the headset so that we can fit it perfectly to the helmet.
If you have any doubt about the application of the headset, please send us a mail to staff@icaro2000.com
For safety reasons, we do not sell the helmet to pilots who wish to use a conventional arching headset worn under the helmet.
Your head would no longer be well protected! See our page about headsets.
The advantages of headsets fixed to the helmet
Test
the ear cups can be flipped upwards or aside quickly and easily
on the ground you can thus hear normally
in the air you can ventilate your ears whenever you like
How to try on a helmet with headset
When you are trying on a helmet whose shell has an opening in correspondence with the ears, because they are designed to be used with headsets (whether for noise reduction or radio communications), it is essential to fasten the chinstrap correctly and position the headphone cups (swing them down into the closed position) over the ears.
In fact, if these helmets are worn without headphones, a large portion of the contact surface, which contributes considerably to the helmet’s stability on the head, is missing.
So if you try on the helmet with the headphone cups in the open position, the helmet will feel unstable.
In addition, the headphones are part of the certification, and so a helmet of this type worn without headphones can be considered as not certified.
Certification E.N. 966
Important !
Ear defenders, or alternatively electronic headsets fixed to the helmet, are mandatory for EN 966 certification.
The Rollbar Plus is certified only with attached ear defenders or electronic headsets.
All our helmets are designed especially for free flight and micro light pilots, in accordance with the European standards (EN 966).
The Rollbar Plus has all the same parts as our model Pro Copter plus the long visor.
Therefore the certification is the same of the helmet Pro Copter.
It has been tested by the italian laboratory CSI.

Our helmets were designed and built specifically to be as light as possible. However they optimize safety for hang glider, paraglider and micro light pilots, as shown by the information above.
For more information about the E.N. 966 test please read our page About safety

Weights
Helmet full carbon: grams 950 +/- grams 50 including the visors
Helmet fiber glass: grams 1.100 +/- grams 50 including the visors
Ear defendeers Peltor Op II. grams 230 just to filter out engine noise
Electronic Headsets with cable: grams 390
The weight of a fiber glass helmet has a tolerance of +/- 50 grams due to the glue applied and to the thickness of the fiber glass layers.
Quality Made in Italy
All our helmets are created by Italian designers, made in Italy using Italian materials and technology, assembled at our workshop in Laveno by trained Italian personnel, and certified by an Italian company.
It would be cheaper to outsource production overseas. We prefer to do everything ourselves, here in Italy, for a reason: quality, which means safety and user satisfaction. Our quality is not just a slogan: it is demonstrated by tangible results. Our hang gliders and helmets are used by leading pilots who have conquered an impressive list of world championship victories.
And you can see quality in action. You are welcome to visit our workshop and watch our team working on the helmets.
